A 2D platformer that combines high-speed stages with a seafaring adventure in which Sonic takes on pirates. While exploring seven islands, he collects rings, items, and materials for Tails to use in building ships. The journey spans 14 stages on land and at sea, with boss battles including a showdown with Captain Whisker.
Up to five vessels are available, including a submarine, a water bike, and a hovercraft. Using the touch screen to steer, Sonic races across the ocean, performs tricks, dodges mines, and fights other ships. The game also features two-player wireless competition, with racing and item-collection battles.
