This arcade platformer, loosely based on Victor Hugo’s novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, follows Quasimodo as he makes his way along a castle wall toward a church bell. In Hunchback, the player guides him from left to right across a series of fixed screens, navigating obstacles along the route.
Quasimodo jumps over ramparts and swings across pits on a rope, while ducking or leaping to avoid fireballs and arrows, as well as knights carrying spears. Each screen has a time limit: a knight climbs the wall, and reaching the top costs Quasimodo a life. After clearing all the screens, the player must rescue Esmeralda; the game then starts again at a faster pace.
