A real-time tactical strategy game, Theatre of War covers battles fought in Europe during 1939–1945. The player commands military units from several nations, including infantry, tanks, artillery and other vehicles, with artillery and air support available when needed. Orders can be issued during combat or while the action is paused.
Each soldier has individual attributes and abilities, gains combat experience, improves skills and can receive a promotion or decoration. Battles account for factors such as a shell’s speed and type, its impact angle and the thickness of the target’s armor. Vehicle damage reflects the location and nature of each hit, while equipment, weapons, uniforms, buildings and terrain are recreated from historical materials.
