This action-platformer follows Sonic as he tries to restore a world shattered by Dr. Eggman and recover the power of the Chaos Emeralds. Day and night play different but important roles in the adventure, with a new challenge emerging after sunset.

Players race through varied stages across the world's seven broken continents, using Sonic's speed abilities alongside new movement and platforming mechanics. Combat is also part of the game, while routes with multiple paths and transitions between 3D and classic 2D camera views add variety to the stages.
