Hieroglyphika is a turn-based roguelike with no text, conveying information through pictograms. The player explores an ancient Egyptian pyramid lost beneath the desert sands and filled with traps and monstrous beings, fighting through dangerous corridors toward its deeper levels.
Deciphering hieroglyphs reveals spells and helps explain the magical properties of artifacts. Loot can be found in sarcophagi or taken from defeated enemies; combat offers spells of the dead, ancient shields and enchanted weapons, while foes can also be pushed into bottomless pits. The game leaves its mechanics and rules for the player to discover, with solutions to find for unusual combinations of random events.
