This train simulator puts the player in the role of a Japanese passenger-train driver, tasked with reaching the destination on schedule while observing speed limits. Densha de Go! features real railway lines and stations, including the Yamanote Line and Keihin–Tōhoku Line, and offers four commuter routes.
During each run, the player must watch signals and speed, manage acceleration and braking, and stop at every station as close to the marker as possible. Accurate stops and sounding the whistle at tunnels and bridges earn bonus time, while speeding or overshooting a platform incurs penalties. Running late also reduces the available bonus seconds.
