This open-world role-playing game with retro-style visuals begins with the return of the horribly toxic Swamp King. At the start, the player chooses one of three options that shape the course of the adventure: an airship for free flight, an artifact that grants a special power, or the Key of Time, which unlocks the world's mysteries. The world can be explored on foot, by airship, or with artifacts, among settlements, civilizations, characters, and monsters.
The player forms a four-character party from six classes with distinct abilities and attributes: Warrior, Hermit, Shaman, Monk, Dreamer, and Explorer. Quests can be completed in multiple ways, and decisions have consequences. The player's actions determine which of more than 70 endings concludes the adventure.
