Archon Classic combines strategy on a chess-like board with real-time combat. When one piece challenges another, both are transported to an arena to fight for the square; victory comes from defeating every opposing piece or claiming all the Power Squares. Teams consist of fantasy creatures with primary and secondary abilities, and players can also use spells.
The game offers free-for-all and team modes for up to four players. Pieces gain experience and level up as the match progresses. The single-player Conquest campaign comprises four campaigns and more than 60 quests; opponents controlled by AI are available at several difficulty settings.
